Privacy Policy

Last updated: 6 June 2026

THE SHORT VERSION

  • Moonsync collects no personal data.
  • No accounts. No sign-ups. No email required.
  • Your cycle data and personal information never leave your device.
  • No Google tracking. No Meta tracking. No advertising networks.
  • Anonymous crash reports and usage counts can be turned off in Settings.

Who we are

Moonsync is a private lunar and cycle tracking application. This privacy policy explains how the Moonsync app ("the app", "we", "us") handles your information. Moonsync is operated as an independent project based in New Zealand.

What we do not collect

We want to be explicit about this because we believe it matters: Moonsync does not collect, store, or transmit any of the following from you:

  • Your name, email address, phone number, or any contact details
  • Your real-world location, GPS coordinates, or address
  • Your menstrual cycle data, period dates, or any cycle tracking entries
  • Photos, contacts, calendar entries, or anything else from your device
  • Your IP address, device identifiers, or advertising identifiers
  • Any data that could identify you personally

All cycle tracking data, settings, and personal preferences are stored only in your device's local storage. They are not transmitted to us or any third party. If you delete the app, this data is deleted with it.

What we do collect

We collect two narrow categories of anonymous information to help us keep the app working and improving. Both can be turned off at any time in the app's Settings under Privacy.

Crash reports. If the app crashes or encounters an error, a diagnostic report is sent through Sentry, a third-party error monitoring service. This report includes the technical stack trace, the device model, the operating system version, and the app version. It does not include your cycle data, personal information, or any content from the app's screens. The report helps us identify and fix bugs.

Anonymous usage events. If the app is opened or a feature is used, an anonymous event is sent through Aptabase, a privacy-respecting analytics service. Examples of events sent: "app opened", "calendar tab viewed", "theme selected", "period day marked", "hemisphere selected". These events are counts only — they contain no personal data, no device fingerprint, and no user identifier. We use them to understand which features are popular in aggregate. For example, we can see "300 people chose the Forest theme this week" but we cannot see who you are or which theme you specifically picked.

Both crash reports and anonymous usage events default to ON when you install the app. You can disable either or both at any time in the app's Settings → Privacy.

Third-party services

The following third-party services receive limited anonymous data from the app, only when you have not disabled the relevant toggle in Settings:

Sentry (sentry.io). Receives crash reports as described above. Sentry's privacy policy is available at sentry.io/privacy. Data sent to Sentry is used only for diagnosing app errors and is not shared, sold, or used for advertising.

Aptabase (aptabase.com). Receives anonymous app usage events. Aptabase is hosted in the European Union and is designed specifically to avoid collecting personal data. It does not use cookies, advertising identifiers, or device fingerprinting. Aptabase's privacy policy is available at aptabase.com/legal/privacy.

Apple and Google. If you purchase a premium subscription, the payment is processed entirely by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). Moonsync never sees or receives your payment details. Apple and Google's handling of payment data is governed by their respective privacy policies.

We have no integration with Google Analytics, Meta, Facebook, TikTok, Amazon, or any advertising network. We do not embed any social media trackers, pixels, or cross-app tracking technology.

Where data is stored

All your personal app data — cycle tracking, settings, themes, preferences — is stored on your device only. We do not have a server that holds your data. We could not access your cycle data if we wanted to, because we never receive it.

Anonymous crash and usage data sent to Sentry and Aptabase is stored on their servers in accordance with their privacy policies and is not linkable to you personally.

Your rights and choices

You are in control of what is shared:

  • Disable analytics: Settings → Privacy → Anonymous Analytics (toggle off)
  • Disable crash reports: Settings → Privacy → Crash Reports (toggle off)
  • Delete your data: Uninstalling the app removes all data stored locally on your device. Because no personal data is stored on our servers, there is nothing further for us to delete.

Since Moonsync does not collect personally identifiable information, requests for data access, correction, or deletion under laws like GDPR, CCPA, or New Zealand's Privacy Act 2020 are inherently satisfied: there is no personal data on our side to access, correct, or delete.

Children's privacy

Moonsync does not knowingly collect personal data from anyone, including children. The app stores all data locally on the user's device and does not require accounts or registration. We do not direct the app at children under 13 (or the relevant age of digital consent in your jurisdiction) and do not knowingly market to them.

Permissions the app may request

Moonsync may request the following device permissions. Each is optional and is only used as described:

  • Notifications: Used to send local reminders about lunar events and cycle dates. Notifications are scheduled and delivered on your device only. We do not send remote push notifications and we cannot see what notifications you receive.
  • Network access (internet): Required only to transmit anonymous crash reports and usage events to Sentry and Aptabase if you have those toggles enabled. The app does not require internet access to function.

Changes to this policy

If we update this privacy policy in the future, the "Last updated" date at the top will change. Material changes will be reflected in the app itself as well as on this page. Continued use of the app after a policy update constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
